Why You Should Handle Your Health Like the Boeing B-17 Model 299

Anyone who knows me well will know that I have a love-hate relationship with flying. I love traveling to new and exciting places. It’s the thrill of the adventure. Of going somewhere outside of my routine. Mixing it up to inspire more creativity.

The flip side is that I don’t love the process of getting to my destination. The smells on the plane are a mix of stale food, body odor and fumes from the operation of the plane. They upset my stomach. The bumps and jostles during takeoff and landing seem unnatural and I’m sure the plane is about to explode. When we’re in the air, the slightest amount of turbulence makes me nauseous. I’m convinced the plane is going to crash. I work hard to tame the runaway thoughts I have about how my exciting adventure is going to end in a water rescue. I know it’s more in my head than anything else.

The whole process of flying seems unnatural to me. It’s a giant, heavy, metal object that...

The Secret to Your Perfect Beach Body

To get the perfect beach body you need to starve yourself for a few months before your vacation. You have to hit the gym hard and spend hours on the treadmill. By vacation time you can fit into your skinny jeans. Then you can splurge while you’re away and gain it all back. Sound familiar???

This approach is so wrong, yet so common. The yo-yo cycle of weight loss and gain can be hard on your body. It sets you up for difficulties losing weight down the road. It’s also hard on your hormones because your body doesn’t know what’s going on.

A better approach is to maintain a healthy weight all year long. Keeping your weight within five pounds of your goal weight will make it much easier to stay on track. You can tighten up or loosen up your diet as needed. You’ll never need to lose large amounts of weight.

To prevent the yo-yo cycle of weight loss and gain, I work with clients to keep their mindset on the right track. Start...

Get Real With Your Goals For Better Results

We all have goals of accomplishing things over our lifetime. Some of them are small. Some of them are big. Some are even bigger than you realize. Like writing a book- so I’ve come to learn.

Anyone who knows me well will know that I’ve been talking about writing a book for a really long time. Like, 10 years long. It’s finally coming together and I’m gearing up for my launch on September 19, 2017.  I really thought all the hard work was over once I had finished the editing process. I had no idea that there was so much involved in coming up with a cover design, marketing material and developing a launch strategy. I didn’t realize how much work it is to promote your own book, because that’s what you’ve got to do if you want it to sell.

But this post isn’t about me writing a book or going over all the things I need to do before September to make it a success. It’s about setting realistic expectations.  How many...

Maintaining Your Body Is Like Regular Car Maintenance

This concept comes down to the ways that you look after your own body. Just like a car, there’s some regular maintenance to do. You need to perform oil changes, keep it filled up with gas and washer fluid and occasionally take your car for a car wash to prevent it from developing rust. In the same way, you need to do basic hygiene and routine maintenance for your health.

You can start by checking your user manual and seeing how often you are due for your next scheduled maintenance. Alright, you don’t really have a user manual, but there are suggestions by health care professionals on how often you should be seeing them. You should go for a checkup with your physician, dentist and optometrist or ophthalmologist at least annually. These regular checkups are the diagnostic assessments to see if you have a headlight that’s burnt out or if your tire pressure is a bit low. Your car can still run if these things are out of whack, but you aren’t operating to the best...
